Adentrándonos en el mundo de la Arquitectura: descubriendo las mentes detrás del diseño de nuestro Showroom
En Iskin Sisters, creemos que cada espacio tiene una historia que contar. Detrás del diseño único de nuestro Showroom en Olivos hay dos arquitectas talentosas, Azul Gawianski y Manuela Ihan. Estas mentes creativas no solo dieron forma a un showroom, sino a un lugar donde nuestras creaciones toman vida.
En esta entrevista, conoceremos a las arquitectas detrás del diseño. Hablarán sobre el papel de la arquitectura en nuestras vidas, sus inspiraciones y cómo se relacionan con el arte. A través de sus palabras, descubriremos cómo la arquitectura y el arte se unen para crear espacios especiales y únicos.
¿Cómo ven el papel de la arquitectura en la sociedad y en la vida cotidiana de las personas?
Nos gusta pensar la arquitectura como la materialización del habitar humano, que cumple el rol de general el escenario para las distintas personalidades, este tiene la capacidad tanto de generar actividad inducida como adaptarse a las diversas necesidades y eso nos atrae mucho. Nos parece que el entorno en donde la vida se desenvuelve no es poca cosa.
¿Qué sueños tienen por cumplir?
Desde que comenzamos a involucrarnos en esta profesión de manera consciente entendimos que nuestro rol en la sociedad era repensar lo que estaba dado por hecho. Nos interesa el concepto de hacer ciudad, es por eso que entendemos el valor que tienen los diversos proyectos si son abordados casi como elementos de “acupuntura” en ciertas áreas de la ciudad y como estos tienen la oportunidad de revitalizar o transformar ciertas áreas. Soñamos que nuestros proyectos trabajen en pos de eso.
¿Que les divierte hacer cuando no están trabajando?
Ambas buscamos llevar una vida holística, alineando nuestra profesión con pasatiempos que nos nutren creativamente: Nos gusta frecuentar espacios que nos inspiran, asistir a cursos y talleres de rubros muy diversos, rodearnos de gente que admiramos y viajar.
Solemos incluso reírnos de que ir a fiestas y viajar es parte de nuestro trabajo, compartimos mucho tiempo juntas, en ámbito laboral y no laboral.
¿Cómo se vinculan con el arte?
El arte siempre nos atravesó mucho a ambas desde lugares muy diferentes y a su vez complementarios.
Manu siempre está en búsqueda de nuevas tendencias, frecuenta muestras y viaja conscientemente en búsqueda de ello. Azul por otra parte es directora de arte, le gusta estudiar arte desde el punto de vista teórico (historia del arte) y práctico (composición y técnica).
¿Qué las inspira a la hora de diseñar y cómo influye en su trabajo?
Entendemos la arquitectura como un gran experimento, en cada proyecto no perdemos la oportunidad de usar algún material de alguna manera no convencional y buscar re significarlo para tener resultados innovadores. Es por ello que muchas veces nuestra fuente de inspiración es el material.
¿Cómo es su proceso creativo, qué rasgos las caracteriza y aportan cada una ?
Una vez entendido al usuario que va a vivir nuestro producto nos centramos en la atmósfera que queremos transmitir, armamos un moodboard con diversos elementos que la generan para luego entender la esencia de la misma:
¿Qué textura la representa? ¿Qué colores debemos aplicar? ¿Cómo debe interactuar el usuario? ¿Qué elementos la potenciarian?
Internamente en el equipo Manuela es quien suele proponer las posibles atmósferas y Azul busca su traducción en el espacio pero hay un intercambio continuo de roles, creemos que esos idas y vueltas enriquecen mucho los proyectos.
¿ Hay algún criterio que lidere el momento creativo ?
Entendemos la arquitectura como un intercambio, uno le presta al espacio sus emociones y asociaciones y el espacio le devuelve una experiencia.
Es por eso que a la hora de proyectar centramos la atención en el usuario, nos gusta proyectar una arquitectura que permita un intercambio mediante el uso de elementos que estimulen los sentidos.
¿ Cómo opera el uso del color en sus proyectos ?
Proyectamos de una manera holística, buscando que todos los sentidos estén representados, es por ello que la forma, el espacio, la luz, las texturas y el color se encuentran en un continuo equilibrio. El color es entonces un elemento compositivo más que hay que equilibrar junto al resto para un correcto armado de la estructura visual, pero que a su vez juega un rol fundamental en el proyecto, ya que tiene un gran peso en cuanto a la creación de atmósfera.

How do you see the role of architecture in society and in the everyday lives of people?
We like to think of architecture as the embodiment of human habitation, serving as the backdrop for different personalities. It has the ability to generate induced activity and adapt to diverse needs, which is something that intrigues us. The environment in which life unfolds is indeed significant.
What dreams do you have to fulfill?
Since we began consciously engaging in this profession, we understood that our role in society was to rethink what was taken for granted. We’re interested in the concept of city-making, which is why we value projects that act almost as «acupuncture» elements in certain areas of the city. These projects have the opportunity to revitalize or transform certain areas. We dream that our projects work towards that.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Both of us aim to lead a holistic life, aligning our profession with hobbies that creatively nourish us. We enjoy frequenting inspiring spaces, attending courses and workshops in various fields, surrounding ourselves with people we admire, and traveling. We even laugh about how parties and travel are part of our work – we spend a lot of time together, both professionally and personally.
How do you connect with art?
Art has always resonated with both of us, from different yet complementary perspectives. Manuela is always seeking new trends, attending exhibitions, and consciously traveling for inspiration. Azul, on the other hand, is an art director who enjoys studying art from both theoretical (art history) and practical (composition and technique) standpoints.
What inspires you when designing, and how does it influence your work?
We view architecture as a grand experiment. In each project, we seize the opportunity to use materials in unconventional ways, redefining them for innovative results. This is why our inspiration often stems from the materials themselves.
What is your creative process like, and what unique contributions do each of you bring?
Once we understand the user who will inhabit our product, we focus on the atmosphere we want to convey. We create a mood board with various elements that generate this atmosphere, and then we grasp its essence: What texture represents it? What colors should we apply? How should the user interact with it? What elements would enhance it? Internally, Manuela usually proposes potential atmospheres, and Azul translates them into space. However, there is a continuous exchange of roles within the team, as we believe this back-and-forth enriches our projects.
Is there a guiding criterion during the creative process?
We perceive architecture as an exchange; emotions and associations lend space their essence, and in return, space offers an experience. Therefore, when designing, we focus on the user. We aim to project an architecture that fosters an exchange through elements that stimulate the senses.
How does the use of color operate in your projects?
Our approach to design is holistic, aiming to represent all senses. This is why form, space, light, textures, and color exist in a continuous balance. Color is yet another compositional element that must harmonize with the rest for proper visual structuring. However, it also plays a fundamental role in projects, as it significantly contributes to creating atmosphere.
